Cholesterol and Heart

The results of these tests are entered onto a computer which estimates your risk of developing heart disease over the next ten years. As part of the service you will also receive a personalised action plan highlighting simple steps you can take to keep your heart health and, if necessary, referral to your doctor.

What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fatty substance produced by your liver, which helps keep the cells in your body healthy. There are two types of cholesterol:

‘Good and Bad’. Poor diet, smoking and lack of exercise can all lead to high levels of bad cholesterol.

Cholesterol only becomes a problem when there is too much bad cholesterol in your blood. That is why we test both your total cholesterol level (good plus bad) and your good cholesterol level to help you understand if your heart is healthy.
